J.O. champ: Danielle Gutierrez will be San Antonio's lone representative at the 2005 USA Boxing Junior Olympic National Championships, June 21-25, in
Brownsville.

Gutierrez, of Unlimited Boxing Club in San Antonio, earned her spot by winning the state J.O. crown in the 154-pound class, May 6-8, in El Paso.

Two boxers won gold in the 13-14 age group at El Paso but did not qualify for nationals. Only boxers in the 15-16 age group are eligible to advance.

Mark Martinez of Angel's Boxing Club won at 90 pounds. Felix Galvan of Ramos Boxing Club won at 154.

Two other boxers from Angel's, Isaac Cantera and Carlos Martinez (Mark's brother), won silver at 101 and 145 pounds, respectively.

Teodar Tellez of Zarzamora Street Gym won silver at 119 pounds. Salvador Castillo of Doc Calderon's Boxing Cub in Del Rio won unopposed at 165 pounds.

In the 15-16 age group, Justin Gover of Eastside Boys & Girls Club took silver at 115 pounds, while Vincent Garcia of Atascosa Boxing Club in Poteet placed
second at 154.

Betty Medrano of Unlimited Boxing Club won at 110 pounds among 13-14 year-olds. Celina Salazar of Ramos Boxing Club took bronze at 125 pounds in the
15-16 age group.

Carlos Valle of Angel's Boxing Club coached the South Texas team, which won the team title.
Boxers bring home three Ringside World Championship Titles!
Kansas City, Mo. Aug. 2 - 7, 2005

Eric Guajardo, Hector Ramos and Celina Salazar combined for a 9-0 record in route to their titles. Our teams record at this tournament
was 15-7. We had a few heartbreaking decisions along the way. The toughest one to swallow was a semi-finals loss by Christian
Santibanes against last years National Champion, Marquell Tyler. Christian used a beautiful jab to keep the national champion off
balance throughout the bout. The last round was Christians best, as he had his opponent circling the ring looking for the nearest exit.
Curiosity got the best of me as I stuck around to review the scorecards.
Judge #1 : 23-21 for Tyler, Judge #2 24-17 for Tyler, Judge #3
21-24 for Christian.
After reviewing the tape of the fight I'm still not convinced we lost the decision. On the flipside, we have to take the
bad with the good as we also won some close ones. Overall our team had a great turnout. After years of chasing a national title (as a
coach) it was great to pick up three in one night.

Quality over Quantity!
July 30, 2005 - San Antonio, Tx.

In no other local show would you have had the #2 ranked boxer in the nation pinned against the ropes being bombarded with
hammering shots from an aggressive determined 16yr old from Austin; a bout so exciting and close it would be declared a draw by one
official; or the final bout of the night having a boxer score 83 scoring blows on one scorecard. Feeling the effects of another sanctioned
amateur card on the same date, our show was a success despite having only 10 bouts. With names like Jonathan Gover (ranked #2 in
the nation at 132lbs) Casey Ramos (a young skillful boxer with over 70 bouts) Cresencio Ramos (a 2004 Silver Medalist at the Ringside
World Championships) and The Baladez Brothers from Austin (two very strong and exciting boxers) this show provided some very
exciting bouts. Judges awarded Cresencio Ramos & Jon Baladez the Outstanding bout of the Night. Others nominated for this award
were:

Jonathan Gover vs Casey Ramos. This bout provided a surprise to all those in attendance. Casey used his superior speed and counter
punching ability to surprise the 2005 USA Silver Medalist. Ramos had the national ranked boxer backpedaling throughout the fight. It
was a 2 for 1 as Casey landed the sharper clean shots & Jonathan landed timely power shots that would have had any other boxer
running scared looking for a soft spot on the canvas. This bout was a true treat for the veterans of the sport in attendance.

Jesse Santibanes vs Felipe Montes. The last bout of the night was an all out war. Santibanes scored 83 punches on one scorecard to
52 from Montes. Montes was surprisely strong for his stature as he was aggressive throughout the bout. Santibanes used a solid jab
and good ring generalship to keep Montes off balance but was ocassionally forced to slug it out when Montes found his way inside.
Jesse has finally taken the advice of his younger brother "USE YOUR JAB JESSE!, UPPERCUT!" and has won his last two bouts.

Cresencio Ramos vs John Baladez were awarded the Outstanding bout of the Night. It was another exciting "pick-em" match that earned
these valiant boxers the award. Jon applied the pressure from the opening bell hoping to take an early lead that could help him in the
decison this time around. One small problem, Cresencio had the same game plan. "Apply the pressure early on, hoping he'd fade late
in the rounds" No luck. They stood toe to toe slugging away as each boxer gave the other a good view of the ceiling a few dozen times.
One judge had this bout a draw at the end of the bout. As ringside officials reviewed the scorecards and informed the official of the error
the judge was forced to make a decision; which would be the deciding factor. Cresencio was awarded the bout for being the
"aggressor". This is the 2nd time Cresencio has received this type of award.

ATTENTION COACHES: FYI Whenever an award for "Outstanding Boxer" is given to a boxer, BOTH BOXERS SHOULD RECEIVE a
trophy. And it should be named "OUTSTANDING BOUT OF THE NIGHT", not "OUTSTANDING BOXER" IMO.

Cresencio avenges loss. Santibanes wins!
July 23, 2005 - San Antonio, Texas.

Cresencio Ramos scored a razor thin decision over John Baladez of Austin, Tx. The rematch is scheduled for July 30, 2005.

Jesse Santibanes  recorded his first victory of the year with an impressive performance vs Puro Gallos (Corpus Christi) Andrew Villarreal.
The southpaw Villarreal came out swinging and tried to make it a slugging match vs Jesse in the first round. Jesse used his quick
footwork and solid combination to score the victory.

Two area boxers win state Golden Gloves titles
Web Posted: 03/06/2005 12:00 AM CST

San Antonio Express-News

Two South Texas boxers won titles at the Texas State Golden Gloves Tournament in Fort Worth.

Hector Ramos and Jonathan Gover will advance to the National Tournament of Championships, May 15-21, in Little Rock, Ark., after
winning by decisions in their 141- and 137-pound divisions, respectively.

Ramos decisioned Oscar Zamora of Brownsville while Gover decisioned Elias Lopez of Dallas.

Two other South Texans, Isaac Ruiz and Carlos Cassasola, were losers in their final bouts.

Ruiz was decisioned by Gregory Corbin of Dallas in the super heavyweight division while Cassasola was decisioned by J.D. Charles of
Corpus Christi in the 125-pound division.
Cresencio Ramos named OUTSTANDING BOXER of the night.
Corpus Christi, Texas June 18, 2005

Cresencio Ramos won the best of 5 series vs 2004 National Champion Jose "Rocket" Garcia in impressive fashion. It was non stop
action from the opening round, a bout that would be decided in the final round. Cresencio Ramos was awarded the "Outstanding Boxer"
of the night. Cresencio could have not earned the OUTSTANDING BOXER award without the toughness of Jose "Rocket" Garcia as he
made Cresencio dig deep to pull out this victory. Congratulations to The Rocket.

Celina Salazar handed Elizabeth Ruiz of Victoria, Texas the 2nd loss of her amateur career. It was an exciting bout as both boxers
exchanged punches throughout the bout. Celina picked up the pace in the last round and tested her stamina. The change in pace wore
down Elizabeth allowing Celina to score clean shots that would decide the bout.

Paige Galvan. Anita Lopez was well prepared this time around as she won a decision.  Paige's pressure and solid right hands forced the
ringside doctor to stop the bout on several occasions to try and control Anita's bleeding. Anita stuck to her game plan despite the
bleeding and scored the victory.

Eric Guajardo lost a decison to Brownsville's Jonathan Sanchez. Eric fought a smart bout as he looked his BEST dropping the decision.
Eric fought at his heaviest ever, 112lbs. Eric was recently diagnosed with a eating disorder, "HotCheetos" . After repeated visits to the
doctor it looks like we might have to turn to Dr. Phil to help Eric with this terrible disorder.
Notes: After this was printed Eric was caught with a 3 pound bag of Hot Cheetos in his gym bag. Updates on his condition will follow.

She's got game!
6-11-05 Corpus Christi, Texas

Paige Galvan recorded her first victory in her second outing in impressive fashion. Leaving her pacifier at home Paige
outboxed/outslugged the game Anita Lopez of Corpus Christi. Paiges late night "snack attacks" & repeated visits to the kitchen were a
blessing in disguise as she weighed in at the heaviest ever, a "Tyson-like" 74lbs; allowing her to compete against the bigger opponent
Anita Lopez, 78lbs. Paige forced a standing 8 count in the 2nd round, and was on the verge of stopping her opponent in the 3rd round
before being saved by the bell. With a little more gym time, and less kitchen time Paige can make some noise at the upcoming national
tournament in Kansas City, Mo.  National Championships Aug. 2-6, 2005
Notes: After the fight Paige scored another victory over some Nachos and Potato Chips lifting her record to 2-1.

Celina Salazar had to work extremely hard for her win. Elizabeth Ruiz, Victoria, Tx. had a record of 7-0 before Saturdays bout in Corpus.
Celina found out early in the bout why Elizabeth was undefeated. It was toe to toe action in the first two rounds and it was clear that the
3rd round would decide the victor of the bout.Sensing her opponent tiring at the end of the 2nd round Celina came out strong in the third.
Elizabeth backpedaled for most of the 3rd round allowing Celina to remain aggressive and land the harder/clearer shots. In the end it
was Celina who'd get to add another W to her record; Elizabeth was forced to walk away with her first loss.

Christian Santibanes had a sleepwalking victory over Aaron Cerda of Mission, Tx. It seemed as if it would be a competitive bout in the
opening seconds of the first round as Aaron began with some Gumby type showboating moves. It was the story of the fight as Aaron
continue to showboat in all three rounds allowing Christian to continue the pummeling. Aaron did show some signs that he could be a
good boxer. If he can work a little more on his defense and jab instead of dance moves he might get some things done here in South
Texas.

Jairo Martinez's opponent Andres Vallejo of Corpus was a no show.

Felix Galvan - no opponent
Jesse Santibanes - no opponent.

Notes: James Jimenez could not attend this event due to a prior commitment, a picnic?                goJAMESgo !

Ramos comes up short in Little Rock, Ark.
Its been a busy year thus far for Hector Ramos. Ramos fresh from a victory in Canada at the 2005 Ken Goff Memorial tournament, won
his first-round Golden Gloves bout Monday, stopping David Buggs II of Indiana at 1:51 of the second round.

Wednesday, the Air Force boxer, ranked No. 3 nationally, lost a 4-1 decision to No. 4 Willie Nelson of Cleveland in their 141-pound bout.

"Safety First" in Eagle Pass
Eagle Pass, Texas May 21, 2005

Felix Galvan's experience and punching power was a factor in his victory over Rodolfo Gomez of Laredo, Texas. Felix used his quick jab
and movement to confuse the inexperienced Gomez. After two rounds Galvan started putting solid combinations together, hurting
Gomez seconds into the final round and forcing referee to caution Gomez for excessive holding.

Eddie Guajardo had a "successful" amateur debut. Guajardo came out strong hurting his opponent Jonathan Hernandez of Del Rio, Tx.
in the first round but was unable to finish off the determined opponent. Vince Lombardi said it best, "fatigue makes cowards of men",
this bout was a true testament of that as both boxers made Butterbean look like Shane Mosley.

Christian Santibanes third round rally fell short as he lost a close 2-1 decision to Terrell Mazion from Austin, Texas. Terrell's speed and
movement gave Christian trouble in the first two rounds. The third round was the most exciting as both boxers stood toe to toe for the
first half of the round; the bout ended with Christian desperately being the aggressor trying to land punches to make up for the first two
rounds.

Ramos splits victory with Canadian.
Regina, Canada, Saskatchewan - May 6-8, 2005

Colorado Springs, Co.        Eight boxers traveled to Canada for the 2005 Ken Goff Memorial tournament, May 6 and 8. Three U.S. boxers

"Officials party in Mexico"
El Paso, Texas May 5 - 8, 2005

In the weeks leading to the State Tournament the hard work and dedication our boxers showed in the gym erased any doubts that  we'd
come back from El Paso with anything less than two gold medals. Thanks to some panhandlers acting as judges we  drove back with a
foul smell on our shoes after being present in the same room with some of these officials.

Its an uphill battle trying to find dependable judges with a conscience. These judges are volunteers, so its hard to turn them away. In
most cases if these volunteers are willing, "we" give them a USA BOXING patch, and let them officiate. I'd ask all officials to take a test
before allowing them to decide the outcome of a bout. A exam that will help us decide if some of these officials are worthy. I'll provide a
sample of a test that would suspend most officials from ever judging a bout again.

Nine out of ten officials in El Paso would be suspended immediately after taking this test .

Sample Officials Test

It was obvious some of the judges were still suffering from a bad hangover after being spotted crossing the border the night before Day
2 of boxing at the JO Tournament.  There was bad judging throughout the tournament, not just against boxers of our team. In the finals, a
official judged her nephews bout.

Celina Salazar first loss came at the hands of the Gulf's Crystal Delgado. Celina landed hammering shots in all three rounds, which
were occasionally countered by "pit-pat" non scoring shots by Crystal. In all three rounds Celina backed up her opponent to the ropes
forcing her opponent to go on the defensive. After a strong 3rd round it was obvious Celina should have received the decision. Judging
from ringside, I along with a few other neutral fans were sure Celina would be declared the winner. After an unusually long wait the
judges tallied their scores and Crystal was awarded the narrow decision. The scorecard's read:

29-14 - Celina
25-11 - Celina
13-12 - Crystal     (Celina was awarded 4 points in each round)
17-16 - Crystal     (the fight was decided in the final round on this scorecard)
27-19 - Crystal     (This judge was obviously color blind, or  had dyslexia.)

Felix Galvan won the Gold Medal via unopposed.

Ramos Boxing Team vs Austin, Texas
Austin, Texas April 30, 2005

Christian Santibanes picked up where he left off last week and scored a victory over Zachary Martinez, Austin, Texas. Christian used a
stiff jab and solid defense throughout the bout to pitch a shutout over three rounds.

Cresencio Ramos continued his impressive win streak with a win over Austin's Michael Baladez. Cresencio made the judges job easy
by scoring solid shots at ease to win all three rounds.

Eric Guajardo closed out the show with a easy victory over Pablo Guevara, Austin, Texas. Having to wait until the final about of the night
to enter the ring Eric showed signs of fatigue, but still managed to score a easy victory over the hometown kid.

Texas Gold Rush!
Mission, TX. April 22-24, 2005
Ramos Boxing Team picks up 6 Gold Medals, 1 Bronze at the Junior Olympic Tournament in Mission, Texas!

Christian Santibanes completes the trifecta with his first win coming on Friday against a very game Mario Barrios of Eastside Boys &
Girls Club. His jab, and tight defense was the key to the win over Barrios. The second fight was versus  the aggressive brawling style of
Juan Lopez of TKO, San Antonio . Christian left his defense at the Comfort Inn Lobby and exchanged punches with Juan throughout the
bout to win a unanimous decision. It was sweet revenge for Christian in the gold medal round as he changed his game plan and used
his counter-punching style to win his third fight in three days against Jon Balderas of PanAm Boxing Club - Austin.

Cresencio Ramos, who has been boxing very impressive lately only needed one victory to claim the gold medal. He was opposed by
Zachary Martinez of Pan Am Boxing Club, Austin. Cresencio went for the homerun (ala-Barry Bonds) from round one and scored a easy
victory over the confused Martinez.

Eric Guajardo took out his home sickness on Juan Salas, Brownsville-Cobrita and needed only .47 seconds to score an impressive
victory for his second KO in a week. It was a solid left hand to the body that had Juan backpedaling, forcing referee Art Souza to call a halt
to the bout.

Felix Galvan, continued the gold rush by using his strong jab to set up his "ugly cousin" (a solid  right hand) against Robert Parker of
Robstown. Felix used his ring experience and made it a short  night by stopping Robert in only .54 seconds into the first round.

Jairo Martinez, had the toughest bracket of the bunch as he drew former State Champion Justin Gover of East Boys & Girls Club in the
semi-finals. Jairo knew the disadvantages going into the tournament boxing in the toughest weight division of the tournament. Justin
blew out the #8 ranked boxer in the nation on the previous night (Casey Ramos, Austin , Texas), to advance to the semi's.  Jairo (8
bouts) connected on a few solid combinations, before being stopped in round 1 against Gover (50+ bouts).
Celina Salazar and Paige Galvan recieved gold medals, via unoppossed.

Junior Olympians shine in Corpus.
Corpus Christi, TX. April 16, 2005

Cresencio Ramos granted "Rocket" Garcia a rematch at Team Garcias request, what he didn't grant them was a victory. It was the same
result in a more dominating fashion for Cresencio as he backed up Jose throughout the fight to score a unanimous decision.

Christian Santibanes proved to be to much for Hugo Guerrero of San Benito, TX.. Christians' ring experience was visibly noticeable as
he dominated over three rounds to score an easy victory.

Eric Guajardo. It was determined Eric this time around as he forced three standing eight counts to score an dominating victory over
Joshua Longoria of Corpus Christi.

Jesse Santibanes. The hit and run style of Michael Perez proved to much for Jesse as he lost another close decision, 3-2 split.

"Rocket" lands short of destination!
April 9, 2005 - Beeville, Texas

Cresencio Ramos recorded the biggest victory of his short career in Beeville, Texas last weekend. After coming up a bit short (3-2 dec.)
in their previous meeting Cresencio paid his dues in the gym and came up with a  decision over Jose "Rocket" Garcia in the opponents
hometown. Cresencio changed his game plan this time around and pressed the action from round 1 to score a victory over the 2004
National Champion.

Jesse Santibanes. came up on the short end losing a 3-2 split decision to 2002 National Silver Gloves Champion, Jerry Belemontes,
Corpus Christi, Texas. Many at ringside (including some officials) thought Jesse Santibanes deserved the close decision over the
veteran of 68 bouts.

Celina Salazar continued her winning ways with a lopsided decision over the more experienced boxer Amily Montoya. After a close 1st
round Celina forced two standing 8 counts to claim the easy victory.

Christian Santibanes scored the easiest victory of the night after his opponent Joaquin Gaona decided not to compete. Christian won by
walkover.

Felix Galvan woke up after sleep walking for two rounds and KO'd his opponent Mark Gutierrez, Robstown, Tx. in the final round.

Eric Guajardo and Jairo Martinez didnt fare as well as they both lost by RSC-2. The age was the difference as their opponents muscled
them around and forced the referee to call a halt to their bouts.

Ramos selected to represent Team USA in Regina, Canada!
CO. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Over 30 of the nation’s elite boxers will travel to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs,
Colo., April 10-19 for the first Elite Training Camp of 2005. The top four athletes in each of the 11 Olympic-style weight classes make up
USA Boxing’s Elite Team and 34 elite boxers will take part in the training camp. Training camp will include sparring and training

training for several members of the 2005 USA Boxing Elite Team. Hector Ramos who is currently ranked #3 in the nation will compete in
the Ken Goff Memorial Boxing Classic in Regina, Canada as a representative of Team USA.
USA Boxing releases 2005 National Rankings
Hector Ramos ranked #3 in the Nation by USA Boxing, visit USABoxing.org for complete list of rankings.
Hector Ramos recently competed in the nations top amateur tournament at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.. The
"talented rich light welter weight division" had the nations top 25 boxers. Some of the top boxers included 2004 Olympic Alternate Karl
Dargan, Jeremy Bryan 2004 National Golden Gloves Champion (ranked#3 going into this years tournament), Antonio Orozco last years
National JO runner-up (ranked #2), Eric Canales 2005 Armed Force Champion (ranked #5) all of whom ran into this years Bronze
medallist, Hector Ramos. It was a tough tournament from day one as Hectors first match was against Antonio Orozco, it was a war as
Hector pulled out a 12-9 dec. Day two was also a tough one. Hector had to overcome a 1st round knockdown to pull out a DQ in the third
round. Sensing he was behind on the scorecards Hector went from boxer to aggressor, which resulted in excessive holding, by Jeremy
Bryan, he was disqualified by the referee after numerous warnings in the third round. The Quarterfinals didn’t get any easier. Hector had
to mentally prepare himself to box against a boxer who he had lost to at the Armed Force Championships two weeks prior to this
tournament. Hector stayed disciplined and boxed his way to a 14-12 decision. With only the top four boxers remaining; 2004 Olympic
Alternate Karl Dargan (Philadelphia, Pa.)  2004 U.S. Championships bronze medallist Charles Hatley (Dallas, Texas) Hector Ramos
(Lackland Air Force Base) and 2004 National PAL Champion Willie Nelson (Cleveland, Ohio) Hector lost a 16-12 chess match to
Olympic Alternate Karl Dargan. With the bronze medal finish, Hector will be part of this years World Athlete Program which will be invited
to numerous International competitions in the coming months.
Ramos outclasses Four-time State Champ!
Going into this years GG State Tournament Jose Orozco was looking to make history  by becoming the only boxer from the Dallas-Ft.
Worth area to win 5 State Titles. When told of Orozcos feat Ramos knew he'd have to not only beat Orozco, but would have to do so in
Orozco's hometown of Ft. Worth, Tx. In the end  Ramos would use his superior boxing skills to outbox, and outclass Orozco over three
exciting rounds at the John Justin arena in Ft. Worth, Tx. Ramos claimed the state title by defeating Gustavo Mendoza by TKO .40 sec.
into the first round, winning a decision over Jose Orozco in the semi-finals, and dominating Oscar Zamora over four rounds in the finals.
GALVAN RANKED #5 IN THE NATION!
Felix Galvan becomes the ONLY boxer from San Antonio to receive a national ranking through the Silver Gloves tournamen in 2005.
Felix Galvans quest to win the National Title came to an end at the hands of a more experienced boxer, Dominique Dolton, Kronk -
Detroit, Mich. Dolton came into this year's tournament ranked #4 in the nation. This year proved to be a different story for Dolton as he
swept through the competition and claimed this years national title in the senior 147lb division, along with this years #1 ranking.
Throughout the tournament Galvan made believers of many by defeating more experienced national gold & silver medalist (Angel
Resendez, Eric Rendon). With a little more experience Galvan may soon claim a national title of his own.

Maldonado reaches finals in the 2005 Regional Golden Gloves.
Maldonado scored three consecutive TKO's before dropping a 4-1 split decision to Carlos Mendez in this years Golden Gloves finals.
