Santibanez drops decision in Finals!
Ximenez advances to Nationals.
Jan. 19, 2008

Christian Santibanez traveled to Littlerock, Ark. with hopes of adding to his current streak of impressive
victories. Although Santibanez's first win was an impressive one scoring a dominating victory over Timothy
Le'Blac of Tennessee he also decided to add a loss to the "lackluster" column.

Santibanez sleptwalk for the first two rounds and had an impressive 3rd round but was unable to make up for
the slow start. Steve Cross, Tennessee picked up the 5-0 victory over Santibanez.

Rex Ximenez of Dallas advanced to the Nationals in Kansas with a 3-2 decision victory over Keevan Evans of
Arkansas.

Others advance to Kansas: Zachary Martinez & Michael Baladez of Montopolis. Hector Tanajara of Zarzamora Street Gym
advanced to Kansas as Unopposed Champion in Littlerock, Ark.

March 2, 2009
Boxers successful in local show.
March 28, 2009

Team Morones hosted their first boxing show in Floresville. Due to recent changes to our B.O.G. (STABA) we
turned back time. 45 bouts took place. 230pm - 930pm. . . this takes you back to the good ol'e days. We had
been stuck at a 25 bout limit to our boxing shows in South Texas due to the Canonisim Rules.

Eric Euceda vs Mark Castillo (Villar) Euceda finally understands why conditioning is so important. ("Fatigue
makes cowards of Men") After a sloppy 1st round Euceda was able to top himself with a sloppier 2nd. I was able
to get in a few words between some of his heavy breathing between rounds, "You're going to lose the fight if you
don't knock him out". He tried and had a successful 3rd round but was unable to make up for the slow start.
Castillo stuck to his gameplan and kept Eric at bay with his reach advantage. This was Euceda 1st bout. .... and
last if he keeps thinking working out should have the same satisfaction of getting a tan in Puerto Rico.
Jesse Duron vs Emmanuel Cantu - Duron upped his record to 9-2 with a win over a determined Emmanuel
Cantu (Austin). Duron remained busy through all three rounds and was on the verge of stopping Cantu in round
3 but Cantu fought with pride and determination to finish on his feet.
Ray Cordova vs Jose Resendez (Austin PAL) After dropping 50+ pounds and improving his record to 6-1 it
seems Cordova is finally coming to terms with his style. Cordova used his quick footwork and handspeed to
confuse the Austin boxer in the final 2 rounds. One judge had Resendez scoring 3 points in the entire fight.
Cresencio Ramos vs Sean Sendejo (Morones Boxing Team) Ramos continues to mimic a bottle of old wine as
the years go by. Ramos has been training/boxing since the age of 7 and is a veteran of 60+ bouts....he's only 14.
Pete Contreras vs Casper - Pete won with lighting handspeed and devastating power!

Ray Cordova & Cresencio Ramos followed up an impressive showing last week in Floresville with a few more into
the win column. Richard Soto lost a 3-2 split decision to referee Arthur Souza.

Ray Cordova vs Ramon Garza III (Angels BC) This was a rematch of an earlier bout between the two back in
Feb. at the Randazzo Boxing Gym. Cordova managed to pull out a close 3-2 victory over Garza then. After 3
strong rounds by Cordova there was no doubt he'd be declared the victor in this one. Cordova used an elusive
style to outpoint Garza over the 3 rounds.
Cresencio Ramos vs Rogelio Garza (Brownsville, TX) Ramos didn't let intimidation be a factor. Garza was
physically mature beyond his years but none of that mattered. Ramos used great ring generalship to control the
pace of the bout over the 3 rounds. Ramos won via 5-0 decision.
Richard Soto vs Ivan Martinez (T.N.T. SA) This one sucked. After 3 strong rounds by both boxers the
outcome was decided by Referee Arthur Souza. After reviewing the score cards the warning (opponent gets
awarded 2 points) given by Arthur Souza was the deciding factor in the 3-2 victory for Martinez. One card had
Martinez winning the bout 12-11 in total punches landed. The other card was 20-19. Take the warning away and
Soto is declared the winner. Kudos to Souza. Our areas top offical. It's not often we get to see beauty at it's
best.... amazing, simply amazing judgment by the almighty Arthur Souza!
Ramos & Cordova impressive!
Arthur Souza scores decision over Richard Soto.
After this weekends show in Austin at the Pan-AM Pal Boxing gym I left Austin with a pretty bad taste in my mouth.
It had nothing to do with the food being served at the show. It was the judging. The 80 minute drive from Austin to
San Antonio had my mind spinning with ways to get my point across. To use the "correct" words when describing
some of these officials. So after 80 minutes of thinking of every four letter word known in the slang
English/Spanish vocabalary I decided to give it a few days before posting my opinion. I figured If I still felt the
same way I felt that day after a few days of cooling off I'd write about it. If not, I'd ignore it and move on. Well,
after 3 days I feel the same. Some of the judges there that day were a bunch of idiots. There's really no other
way of putting it. So if any of you are offended by facts go ahead and X out this page right now.

The reason I'll state these as facts is cause some of the more experience officials at the show there in Austin
agreed with me. But are in no position to make their opinions public. These officials were noticeably disturbed
while reviewing the score cards before announcing the decision.

There's a reason why there's more than one judge needed when scoring a bout. Majority rules. Which means
you have the opinon of a few judges not just one. This meaning is lost when the majority of the officials are idiots.
When using 5 judges you
ones you'll usually get the correct call each time. At this show there was no hope. The scoring was done with only
3 judges. So it gives you very little room for error. In other words, you can't use more than one idiot to judge a
bout. You're better off asking the officials to jump in the ring and let them wrestle over some garne guisade tacos
in the center of the ring. That would be more entertaining that having to put up with the BS decision they were
dishing out. This idea might not sound so bad to some of the officials there. Most of them looked like they've had
a lifetime relationship with Mexican tacos. Not the fake ones at Taco Bell. I'm talking about real thing. The big fat
greasy ones that are known to clog up arteries and give people medical conditions. Maybe that was the case.
The concession stand was a little to close to the ring now that I think about it. Maybe they were fantazising about
tacos instead of scoring the fight? Pizza? Buffet? Maybe they were thinking, "I hate wearing white, it makes me
look much bigger than what I really am. I need to go home" The more experienced judges have been around
long enough to not let such thing get in the way of scoring a bout.

It's understandable to anyone reading this that it looks like I'm being biased. That I'm bitching or complaining.
That I'm a "sore loser". Wrong. I've archived everything I've ever posted on this website. Feel free to skim
through and you'll noticed one thing. When our boxers have won close decisions or a decision I think we
shouldn't have won I've said it as well. One fight that comes to mind involved Matt Suniga in the finals at last
years Ringside tournament. We shouldn't have won that one but we did. After the fight I talked to the boxer and
coach and told them they I felt they should have won. I understand how boxing works. That bad decisions have
always been part of the "game". That everyone goes through it at one time or another. As a coach, parent, boxer
etc.. I wonder if the judges would be embarassed if I posted their pictures online? I took photos of all the officials
involved in the scoring. The camera we used had a nice zoom button that allows you to get a nice close up photo
of their blackheads. Guess I'll wait a little longer. If this is still on my mind next week I'll post them. Well, it might be
illegal so I'll do what they do on TV when they're trying to hide someones mug. I'll put that little black box over
their eyes so you don't know who it is......

The one thing I've never done is kept quiet when I feel or see something wrong. Whether it's boxer, relative,
friend or anyone I associate with. If I think it's wrong or feel it "hurts" others I'm going to speak up. So with that in
mind...the judges (not all of them at the show) who scored the bouts that involved our boxers are idiots.

Christian Santibanez. vs Fransico Martinez  (Austin Pal) 2-1 Decision for Martinez. Judges were being
seduced by greasy tacos during this bout.

Ramon Cardenas vs Issac Rodriguez (Castillos) 2-1 decision for Rodriguez. The 2 judges that scored this
fight get the Annual "2009 I don't only eat greasy tacos but I'm a idiot too" award. One scorecard had the bout
tied at 5-5 but awarded Rodriguez the decison to Rodriguez for being the "aggressor" throughout the bout. This
was pretty retarded. When I post the video you'll see what I mean. Rodriguez fought brave but backpedaled the
whole fight. Well not really backpedaled it was more like "How much longer before the end of the fight, this guy is
trying to hit me. HELP!"

Steven Duron vs Matthew Blanco (Randazzo). After having to witness two really bad decisions the game
plan changed. "You need to stop him if you want to win this fight, we're not getting the decision if it goes all 3
rounds" Ask and you shall receive! Duron came out blasting and knocked him out in the 3rd round. Blanco got
up at the before the count of 10 but was in no shape to continue. After Blanco got to his feet the doctor stepped
up onto the ring to check on the Blanco. This conversation among the referee of the bout, Blanco and the doctor
went on for about 5 minutes. During this time I was thinking, "Sorry Duron, I lied. I think they're trying to figure a
way to declare him the winner. Let's get off the ring, I'll buy you a trophy at the pulga that says "Winner"

spell check please
Duron KO's foe!

boxers must fight in their 5th bout in order to compete in Brownsville, Junior Olympic Tournament.
9:30am - Celina Salazar workout. Pro debut in Dallas April 25 vs Lisa Lisa Lamb (6-3)

Noon - McCollum Track - Christian Santibanez & Steven Duron. 3.5 miles under 27 minutes. In order
to compete at the JO Tournament in Brownsville.
Noon - Jairo Martinez workout. Fighting April 18 in Laredo

Imagine one person (myself) trying to do all this? Not possible. With Cresencio Ramos up in Dallas for
a family function I was limited with "rookies". Well, these so called rookies performed well. Pete
Contreras Sr. & Carlos Alvarez took care of the Laredo trip. Not only did both boxers bring home
victories they also picked up the team trophy. Not bad for a few "rooks". Arturo Ramos Sr. took care of
the morning workout at 9:30.. he's not a rookie. "Pancho" Morales & Duron Sr. took care of Santibanez
& "Slim" at the track. This gave me the time to work with both Hector and Jairo in preparation for their
fights this Saturday.

Job well done... Pete Contreras Sr, Carlos Alvarez, Duron Sr. and "Pancho" Morales. . .. and DAD

Ramos advances to State!
Junior Olympians come up short in Los Fresnos.
April 19, 2009

Cresencio Ramos will once again be our lone represntative at the State Junior Olympic tournament this year.
There's one thing that seperates Ramos from other boxers here at our gym... P R I D E. Many people would tell
that it's not good to be so prideful... those people have never been part of our sport. Ramos has been very
impressive in his last couple of fights. He's finally feeling comfortable within his own skin and gaining the
confidence needed to be successful. He's able to make adjustments during a bout when things are going his way
to pull out the W's. Over the weekend Ramos recorded to victories in Los Fresnos, TX. Ramos defeated Luis
Castro of Brownsville, TX in the finals. After viewing the video I will comment more about his bouts.

Steve Duron, Christian Santibanez & Ramon Cardenas all lost their first bouts of the tournament. Steve Duron
lost a decision to Rogelio Moreno of the Valley in what I was told was a good close bout. Ramon Cardenas
according to a few people in the Valley was impressive enough against the 50+ bout veteran Gilden and should
have recieved the nod. Cardenas was in only his 6th bout. Santibanez lost in the finals to Jerrod Saldana of San
Marcos.  Saldana has improved drastically lately and has developed into a decent little boxer. With that in mind,
Santibanez should have not lost this fight. Santibanez has competed and won at the National level and has no
business losing at a regional tournament. The Santibanez brothers are probably two of the most talented
sibilings I've ever coached....it's a shame they might never be successful due to their laziness.

Boxing is a dangerous sport that must be treated with respect. It's not like other sports where you have
teammates and timeouts during competition. I"ve always said, "All boxers are one punch away from ending up in
the hospital or dead". That's how our sport should be approached. It is not a recreational white collar sport where
you have others giving you a helping hand at time of WAR. Once a boxer loses their HUNGER it's time to walk
away.
