Adeniran advances to finals!
Mata's journey comes to an end.
Feb. 22, 2008

Tokundo Adeniran managed to pick up another 3-2 decision vs Corey Randal. The Leija trained Randal made
the fight interesting. After being knocked down by a left hook midway through the 2nd round Randal came
storming out for the 3rd and final round. His effort came up a bit short dropping a close decision to Aderniran.
Adeniran drops decision in GG Finals!
Feb. 24, 2008

Adreniran's streak of six consecutive wins came to an end Saturday night in the Regional Golden
Gloves finals. His first loss came via Lawrence Slater (Anne Wolfe Boxing Team)

It was a low scoring bout that had little action In the end Slater was convincing enough to win the 5-0
decision.

Overall are team faired well. We entered three boxers (2 sub-novice, 1 novice) and each won their first
fight. Alvarez finished with a record of 1-1, Omar Mata was 2-1 and Tokunbo was 3-1.

Now that the tournament is over we will try and keep all of our boxers busy in preparation for this years
Ringside World Championship Tournament.
Adeniran who raised his record to 6-0 will fight for the GG title Saturday at the Alzfar Shrine. Bouts begin at 7pm.

Omar Mata's journey came to and end Friday night. After being dropped in the 2nd round by Cavazos Mata
refused to let off the gas and continued to apply pressure until the final bell sounded.

Mata who overcame physical disadvantages throughout the tournament came up short dropping a 5-0 decision
to Joel Cavazos of KAFB.

This tournament was quite and accomplishment for Mata. Five weeks ago Mata walked into the gym for one
purpose, to fight in "the gloves". Although Mata is fairly new to the sport his dedication and determination in the
last 5 weeks allowed him to compete against boxers who were bigger, stronger and overall more skilled.

Would be interesting to see what Mata can do with proper preparation.
Ramos brothers in action!
March 16, 2008

Looks like brothers Mike & Hector Ramos will be giving their immediate family members a few gray hairs.

Mike and Hector Ramos will both be in action these coming weeks. Mike Ramos will resume his career after a
brief pause and take on Top Rank boxer, Demetrio Soto of Los Angeles, CA. The bout will take place in West
Covina, Calif. on a Telefutura Card.

Hector Ramos will finally make his pro debut. Ramos needed a small break after ending his amateur career.
Ramos will look into starting a new chapter in his life. Professional boxer.

We also have a few boxers at the gym who will be making their pro debuts in the coming months. These boxers
are currently training and are ready to compete.

Boxers shine in Corpus!
May 30, 2008

Cresencio Ramos Sr & Arturo Sr handled the coaching duties in Corpus Christi this weekend. Our JO boxers
performed well. Jesse Duron and Ray Cordova both scored a win in their first outing, Richard Soto made it
7-0 with his latest victory.
Santibanez set to make Pro Debut!
April 3, 2008

After a sporadic amateur career Jesse Santibanez will finally make his Pro Debut April 18 in Laredo, TX

Santibanez is scheduled to make his Pro Debut against Eddie Ramirez (Laredo, TX)

Contract weight is 130+1.

Jose Terrazas, Jairo Martinez and Celina Salazar are also being considered to be on the same card. Jairo
Martinez is 1-0, while Terrazas and Salazar will be looking to make their Pro Debut.
Ray Cordova vs Skyler Doss (C.C.P.O.A.) Ray showed some composure in this bout after hurting his
opponent early. Along with his composure Ray also showed his consistency and continued to apply the
pressure in all three rounds to score the victory. Cordova weighed in at 141, close to 30 pounds less than
when he first set foot in our gym.  His hard work should pay off..... If he keeps working hard.

Jesse Duron vs Cruz Morin (Baltazar CC) Duron made it plain and simple early on......no stop aggressive
punching in all three rounds. It was good enough to earn him the clear victory. The funny part about this is
that he's actually a much better boxer than slugger. It's always good to have both.

Richard Soto vs Zach Fuller (MMA - CC) Soto made it seem like a daily walk in the park. He kept calm and
patient taking advantage of EVERY mistake Fuller made. Soto picked up the pace a bit in the last round to
score the easy victory.

Our boxers will once again be back in action this Saturday at Ft. Sam Houston - San Antonio.

Boxers go 4-0 in San Antonio
April 5, 2008

The last couple of weeks have been very busy for our boxers. They've been in action a total of 9 times,
winning 8.

Thanks to Southwest Airlines I was able to make it to Ft. Sam (San Antonio) on time

Cresencio Ramos Sr handled the coaching duties earlier in the day matching his son, Cresencio Jr., Ray
Cordova, Richard Soto and Steven Duron.

Richard Soto vs Ivan Martinez (TNT Boxing Club - San Antonio)
This bout was close going into the 3rd and final round. Soto once again waited until the last round to pick up
the pace and score the victory. Martinez received an 8 count in the final round and was hurt by Soto's body
attack but managed to finish on his feet.

Cordova scored yet another victory in his 2nd outing despite a lackluster effort. Cordova did enough just to
win the bout often hurting Honesto then deciding to step back and enjoy the view.

Cresencio Ramos vs Jarren Saldana (Tough Enough Boxing - San Marcos)
Ramos was able to avenge Santibanez loss a few weeks ago by dominating Saldana. Saldana seems to be
improving a bit since he first faced Ramos at last years Junior Olympic tournament. The problem for Saldana
during this bout was that Ramos has improved quite a bit as well. Ramos looked great in this bout despite
being injured.

Jesse Duron vs Martin Magana (Seguin Boxing) Duron scored his 2nd win in as many fights by mixing up
his boxing and aggressiveness. Duron used his jab to get Magana off balance and attacked when he saw the
opening.
Santibanez dissapointed by outcome.
April 19, 2008

Santibanez had to settle for a "draw" in his pro debut Friday at the Laredo Civic Center. Naturally, all of us thought
he'd be declared the winner after a 4 round pummeling of his opponent, Eduardo Ramirez (Laredo, TX)

Santibanez started off strong scoring a knockdown 20 seconds into the fight. It was evident then that Santibanez was
the stronger, faster and more powerful boxer. Santibanez clearly won the first round. A round that could have been
scored 10-8 in favor of Santibanez.

Ramirez would go on to score a knockdown himself. Midway through the 2nd round he connected with a straight right
as Santibanez rushed in after hurting Ramirez. Despite the knockdown Santibanez controlled the round as Ramirez
continued to backpedal.
After the decision was read it was clear that Santibanez should have been declared the winner. As soon as the
decision was read Eduardo Ramirez along with his trainers jumped for joy.

That act alone speaks for itself.
C. Ramos advanced to State!
May 11, 2008

Cresencio Ramos advanced to his first JO State Tournament in his first year of eligibility. Richard Soto & Steven
Duron both came up short in their bid.

Cresencio Ramos vs Jarred Saldana (San Marcos) Ramos faced Saldana for this 3rd time in this  years JO
finals. Same opponent, same result for Cresncio. Saldana came out strong but faded late in the bout allowing Ramos
to dominate the 2nd half of the bout.

Richard Soto vs Mark Martinez (San Antonio)  Soto's first loss after 8 outings came at the hands of 40+ bout
veteran, Carlos Martinez. Despite the difference in experience Soto managed to make the bout interesting by using
his awkward counter punching style to confuse his opponent. With the win Martinez advanced to the finals.

Richard Soto vs Ramsey Luna (Corpus) Soto was able to use his quick footwork to offset the aggressive "running
back " style of Luna. Soto won the 5-0 decision over the hometown boxer.

Steven Duron vs Jon Baladez (Austin) Duron in only his 3rd outing drew the toughest boxer in his bracket, Jon
Baladez of Austin. Baladez experience (45 bouts) was to much for Duron. Duron kept the bout interesting in the first
two rounds by staying in front of Baladez and exchanging punch for punch in the center of the ring. Baladez had a
good 3rd round scoring an 8 count and erasing any doubt who'd be named the victor.
C. Ramos drops decision at State!
May 25, 2008

After scoring an impressive victory in the opening bout in Lubbock, TX  Ramos came up short in his bid for the JO
State Title. Hector Valdez (SW - Dallas) scored a 4-1 decision over Ramos.

The bout remained interesting through three rounds. The hit a run style proved to be the right game plan for Valdez
as he successfuly defended his State Title.

Rey Ximenez Jr. (SW - Dallas) and his father will be headed to Marquette, Mich to this years JO National
Tournament. Ximenez stopped his opponent in the 2nd round to earn his ticket on the TX team as the representative
at 114lbs.
May 23, 2008

Cresencio Ramos cruised to a easy victory over hometown boxer, Rudy Montelongo of West TX. Ramos dominated
the bout scoring a standing 8 count midway through the 2nd round.

Ramos will have his hands full in the finals. He'll be facing two time National Champion, Hector Valadez of Dallas, TX.
Valadez holds a win over Ramos in last years State Silver Gloves finals.
Christian Santibanez vs Michael Baladez (Austin) This bout was close. Baladez used the same tactic he used
two weeks ago vs Luis Castro in the JO Finals in Corpus (he was deducted a point in the process). As Santibanez
pressured and Baladez felt punches flying his way he "lost" his mouthpiece. Allowing him to catch a breather and
stay aggressive. The bout remained closed in all three rounds with both boxers exchanging punches all over the
ring.

Andy Scott vs Caleb Jonan (Austin) The bout ended as a RSC-2 and I along with a few others felt it was a bit
premature. I'll keep my negative comments to myself and just post the video online. You may go to youtube and
search ramos boxing team. It should be the last video that was uploaded. Judge for yourself. The referee for this
bout was Ruben Olivo (AUSTIN, TX) Link to video

Soto prevents shutout!
June 1, 2008

Richard Soto scored the lone victory this past weekend here in San Antonio. Andy Scott & Christian Santibanez
both came up a bit short.

Richard Soto vs Ramsey Luna (Corpus Christi) This was a rematch of last weeks JO Semi-Final in Corpus.
Luna was a bit more determine this time around and the bout remained close for the first two outings. Soto
sensing the bout was close decided to be the aggressor and connected with solid combinations that had Luna on
the verge of receiving an 8 count.
Jubilant on I-35!
June 16, 2008 - New Braunfels, TX

Anyone who's been reading our site the last couple of years might remember "Melancholy on I-35". We took 3
boxers to New Braunfels that time, only 1 won. This time, our boxers did a "little" better.

Cresencio Ramos vs Uriel Garcia (Zarzamora Street Gym). Garcia has been a regular sparring partner for
Cresencio for the past six months. On a few occasions (during sparring) Uriel has showed great potential. His
coaches accepted the fight hoping some of that potential would help him get the "dubbya". No luck. After a sloppy
first round Ramos picked up the action and took Garcia apart with his sharp 3-4 punch combinations. Garcia
seems to have the right ingredients for success but without the proper chef to take advantage of them he'll
continue to struggle with today's amateur boxing scoring system.

Christian Santibanez vs Jarred Saldana (San Marcos) Santibanez was able to avenge a earlier loss to
Saldana (in Victoria, TX.) Santibanez showed small flashes of what once won him a National Title. With his
continued dedication he might be able reach the road less traveled once again, says Mr. Frost.

Steve Duron vs John Selencio (Team Mamones) There's really no secret to Duron's game plan. It's pretty
simple. Once the bell rings he does his best Barry Bonds (minus the steroids) impression and swings for the
fences. Hoping for an out of the park home run each time. This style has worked thus far (3-1 record) but will have
to adjust once he advances past local competition. We'll worry about crossing that bridge another time.

Ray Cordova vs Guillermo Jaramillo (Pan-Am Austin). Cordova went into this bout with the obvious physical
disadvantage. Jaramillo was clearly the more intimidating boxer of the two. Cordova made up for the lack of
physical attributes with his determination. After clearly losing the first round Cordova regrouped between rounds
and piled up the points in rounds 2 & 3 to score the win.

Richard Soto vs Mark Martinez (Angels Boxing Club) This was a rematch of this year Junior Olympic finals in
Corpus May 11. The bout in Corpus was close. Although it was a clear 5-0 decision each judge had Martinez
winning by only 2 or 3 points. It was an accomplishment for Soto (8 fights) to keep it close against Martinez (40+
fights). None of that would matter this time around. After a good first round, Martinez hurt Soto with a solid right that
stunned Soto midway through the round. Before the bell sounded he was caught once again with the same punch.
After taking the full minute between rounds to talk to Soto I decide to stop the bout. Soto with the prowess he has
could have finished the round on his feet but I didn't feel there was a need for him to take anymore punches. It was
obvious he was having an off day.

Overall our boxers did well. Preparations for this years Ringside Tournament will begin in a few weeks.
Martinez inks deal!
July 13, 2008

Jairo Martinez signed a managerial contract  with New York based boxing management company Cestus
Management. The deal is for 3 years with the option to extend. Marinez will be in action under his new
management company in late August.

Cestus Managment President Mike Michael is best known for serving as Lennox Lewis' advisor during his career.

Santibanez set for rematch this Friday!
Salazar in exhibition match this week.
August 25, 2008

Jesse Santibanez will take on Eddie Ramirez of Laredo, TX at the Laredo Civic Center this Friday. This is a
rematch of their first fight, which ended in a draw. It will definately be a crowd pleaser as was the first fight. Both
boxers tasted the canvas.

If all goes well for Santibanez, he'll be in action once again Oct. 3 in Houston, TX vs Alico Castaneda of Houston.
Santibanez signs deal with Cestus Management!
Boxer forced to settle with NO CONTEST after accidental clash of heads.
August 30, 2008

Jesse Santibanez's rematch vs Eddie Ramirez of Laredo, TX was stopped and declared a no-contest after an
accidental clash of heads :45 seconds into the 3rd round. Santibanez was ahead on the score-cards after the
first 2 rounds.

Ramirez game plan was obvious from the start of the first round. Not wanting to give the sell-out crowd their
pennies worth Ramirez decided to hit the gas pedal and use the entire ring to offset the aggressive style of
Santibanez. Although Ramirez did land some shots during the fight they were better suited for the amateur
scoring system.

Although Santibanez was dissapointed about not being able to score his first win as a professional he was
impressive enough during the time he spent stalking Ramirez to be signed by Cestus Management on Saturday.

Cestus Management will now manage the careers of  two boxers from our team, Jairo Martinez & Jesse
Santibanez.

C. Ramos scores win at Quiroga's
Annual Event.
Oct. 11, 2008

Cresencio Ramos was the lone represetative from our gym at this years Robert Quiroga's Annual Fundraiser.

Ramos has managed to stay in the gym despite have to juggle between two sports, boxing & football.

Ramos was matched up against Blake Uresti of San Marcos. Cresencio scored the 5-0 victory by using a strong
body attack in the first round to slow down the bigger Uresti. Ramos stayed on the attack in the 2nd and 3rd
round and scored the "dubya".

Santibanez defeats "Pookie" for State Title!
Dec. 14, 2008

After a rough start at this years Silver Gloves State Tournament Christian Santibanez scored a spirited victory
over local favorite, former National Champion Ernest "Pookie" Degollado.
Santibanez advanced to the finals with a VERY impressive victory of Joey Alday also of Dallas. This set-up the
"mis-match" vs Pookie.

Many people had doubts that Santibanez had a chance vs Degalldo . . . OUR TEAM never did.

"Pookie" chants started a few weeks ago at our gym by one of our very own boxers, Ray Cordova. Everytime
Santibanez was having a bad day at the gym Cordova would remind Santibanez that "Pookie's gonna whoop
yo ass!" This would automatically put Santibanez into "Hulk" mode and he'd start training 100mph. So...
Santibanez might owe Ray a hug next time he sees him at the gym. With the win Santibanez advacned to
Littlerock, Ark. Jan. 14 - 18, 2008

One of the brightest spots of our trip was watching Ramon Cardenas (2 bouts), Steve Duron (8 bouts) and
Petey Contreras (2 bouts) all lose VERY close decisions to boxers with much more experience. In open
tournament (like the Silver Gloves) experience is a non factor when the brackets are made. A boxer like
Cardenas can face a boxer with +35 plus bouts. Which was the case this year.

Ramon Cardenas lost a 3-2 decision to last years JO State Runner-Up, Jason Gilden from Aransas Pass, TX.
Many people in the stands thought Cardenas was the clear winner. Obviously, none of that mattered. Three
judges overruled the other two and Gilden was awarded the close decision. Cardenas had a difficult time
accepting the loss even though he was consoled by other coaches, judges and teammates.

Every person has their calling and for Cardenas, it's boxing. If he keeps his head up and uses this as a
motivation rather than a speed-bump he will soon be making a name for himself in the sport.

Steven Duron & Petey Contreras both faced the same challenge. For Duron it was vs David Rosas a veteran
of close to 50 bouts. Rosas won a 3-2 decision over Duron to advance to the next round. Petey Contreras lost
a 4-1 decision to Alberto Soto of Laredo. Both boxers have nothing to be ashamed of and will one day be on
the other end of these decisions.

CRESENCIO RAMOS JR. Now..... this is the one that's difficult to understand. After scoring a very impressive
dominating performance over Luis Castro of Brownsville many people believed he'd walk right through the
competition. Well, he did. But unlike most in the audience the judges thought otherwise. I can sit here and
decipher this but I won't. There's no answer to why in the world Cresencio's great performance vs Marshall
Sanchez wasn't enough to convince the judges of the victory. Wait.. maybe there is.. " I got some $ on this one
make sure.... . . .. . . . . . . . . . . .
