Jan. 18, 2008

Tokunbo Adenira of Ramos Boxing Team & Matthew McCoy of the USAF boxing team both scored wins
Friday night at the Bennett Fitness Center.

Tokunbo although not in best physical condition pulled out the win by using both his footwork and 3-4
punch combinations to offset the aggressive style of Anthony Jones (Shreverport, LA)

McCoy kept his composure throughout the bout and scored a convincing win over Justice Williams
(Danville, Va.)

Matt McCoy will face Thomas Carleton(Boulder, CO) in the finals tonight at the Bennett Fitness Center.
(Update - McCoy lost a dec.)
"I knew going into the fight that "Ali" Baba was a tough fighter. I prepared myself 100 percent. I was
thinking that I would be a little rusty going into the fight, but everything turned out perfect. My power
was there, my speed was there. My rustiness didn't affect me as much as I thought it would," stated
Raul Martinez to Fightnews. The scores for Martinez' unanimous decision win were 78-74, 78-74,
79-73. Martinez is now slated to fight on a Telefutura broadcast main event on February 29th with
the ever dangerous TBD. Story by Jose Reyes of Fightnews.com
Both prizefighters exchanged furious combinations in the center of the ring throughout eight
hard-fought rounds. Martinez' counterpunching mode was the difference in the fight, as he created
openings working the his left hand up and down the head and body of the African warrior, "Ali" Baba.
Martinez would land precise and effective combinations round after round on the game. Alex Baba
whose effort of staying in close to land exchanges of his own but they would land on the gloves of
Martinez's protective guard.

Alvarez advances!
Feb. 20, 2008

Carlos Alvarez advanced to the 2nd round of this years Regional Golden Gloves with a victory Tuesday
night at the Woodlawn Gym.

After a strong showing in the first round Alvarez allowed his opponent (Hector Velasquez, SAPR)  to
climb back into the contest after a lackluster 2nd round. Knowing the 3rd round would decide the
outcome of the fight Alvarez relied on pure will power to score the 4-1 victory in the Sub-Novice
Heavyweight division.

Alvarez will once again be in action Wed. night against Ricardo Hernandez of Scratch Boxing Club.

Tokumbo Adeiran and Omar Mata are also scheduled to compete on Wed. It will be their first fight of the
tournament for both boxers.

With a win tonight Alvarez will advance into the finals.
Adeniran & Mata score victories!
Alvarez loses battle, wins war.
Feb. 21, 2008

Tokumbo Adeniran and Omar Mata both scored victories in the 2nd round of this years Regional Golden
Gloves. Carlos Alvarez was eliminated from the tournament losing a 4-1 split decision to     from Scratch
Boxing Gym but may have walked away with the biggest prize of them all.

Adeniran started off the night well for our boxers. Bout #9 on the schedule meant he'd be in the ring by
8:30. Alvarez and Mata wouldn't enter the ring until close to midnight.

Mata scored a razor thin victory over his opponent. If decisions were decided on heart alone it would
have been an easy victory for Mata.
After a very "rough" first round Mata seemed to be climbing this uphill battle against all odds. His
opponent seemed, faster, more powerful and overall more skillful. Most days this can earn you a easy
victory. Not today. After receiving a 8 count courtesy of a left hook from Abel Otero, Villar Boxing Club.
Mata headed into the last round with a small ounce of hope that he'd be able to pull off this victory. He
got the decision, but it wasn't easy. Mata decided to rely on pure guts to try and score the win. Mata
applied non-stop punching from the start of the last round and did not let off the gas until the sound of
the final bell had sounded. He was able to score a 3-2 decision to advance into the next round.

Had this decision gone the other way I would have not questioned it. Fortunately for us, when the coin
was flipped, it landed on our side.

Anyone who'd seen what Mata had to go through in order to enter this tournament would agree he
earned this decision long before even entering this tournament..........in the gym.

"I'm to old, Not good enough, I'm to small for my weight, I can't compete with these guys, I started to late".

Hopefully next time these words are heard in Alvarez's head he'll reflect back on his Golden Gloves
experience and realize nothing is out of reach.

Boxing may sometimes have a negative effect on people. Some people will use their experience to
become a better person. Others who lack character will celebrate by getting drunk and letting everyone
know, "I'm Golden Gloves."

Sometimes boxing has nothing to do with boxing.
Spell & Grammar check? Fuck that, it's 3am.
Boxers advance!
Feb.22, 2008

Tokunbo Adeniran and Omar Mata picked up another victory at this years Golden Gloves.

Tokunbo Adeniran vs J'Rod Franks (Pete's Boxing Gym) After a strong two rounds by Tokunbo
Aderniran Franks came out aggressive in the final round. His aggressiveness in the last round made the
bout close. Franks was unable to make up for a slow start and dropped a 3-2 decision to Adeniran.
Three of the five judges awarded Adeniran the victory by one point.

Adeniran will be in action again Friday. A win on Friday will move him into the finals.

Omar Mata vs Jeffery Flemming (Forge Fighters Boxing Team) Outside the ring this bout looked like a
mis-match. The towering Flemming (6'2) looked abnormally tall compared to the 5'7 Mata. Mata was
lucky this wasn't a basketball game, he'd be in trouble if it was.

Mata managed to pull out another close decision (3-2) over Flemming. The win moved Mata into the
finals on Friday.

After this tournament is over I'll personally take Mata to the nearest store to purchase some lottery
tickets.
