Nino,Suniga impress; Ayala drops decision.
June 2, 2007 Houston, TX
Ramos Boxing Team picked up the "Outstanding Traveling Team Trophy" in it's first outing in the Gulf Association. Luis
Nino & Matt Suniga both looked very impressive against their foes from Houston.Kevin Ayala was unable to pick up a win
in his first bout against a boxer out of Austin's Montopolis Rec. Center. Christian Santibanes & Paul Suniga also traveled
with the team but were unable to get an opponent.
There was a total of 45 bouts on this card. The first 20-25 bouts featured boxers who traveled the farthest. Despite the 80+
boxers that needed physicals the show started on time as scheduled. Weigh-Ins were from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., physicals
started 1 p.m. and the first bout was in the ring by 2 p. m. How did they pull this off?
T-E-A-M-W-O-R-K .
Kevin Ayala vs Daniel Martinez, Austin TX. After over 6 months of training Ayala dropped a 2-1 decision in his first
bout. It was by no means a easy victory for Martinez. Ayala and Martinez both stayed very busy in all
three rounds and the decision was still up for grabs going into the final seconds of the bout. Martinez was awarded his first
victory after dropping the first two bouts of his short career. Congratulations to Daniel!
Luis Nino vs Manuel Gonzales, Ray Ontiveros Boxing Club, Houston TX. Nino followed his impressive debut last
week with another victory against the Houston opponent. First round was close as both boxers began throwing haymakers
from the opening bell. Much of the same in the 2nd round. In the 3rd and final round with he bout being close Nino picked
up his punch output and delivered a standing 8 count with only seconds left in the bout. The standing 8 count erased any
doubt of the outcome on the opponents home turf.
Matt Suniga vs Julio Guevara, Screaming Eagles - Houston, TX
Credit for this impressive victory should not only go to Matt but also to his weekly sparring partner, JJ. Suniga's new found
motivation after losing his first two bouts (this was his 4th) has been evident as of late. He's training & sparring with a new
found passion that one can't teach. The results are obvious. Matt's counter-power-punching were at it's best as he had
Guevara's head popping back with each shot he threw. Let's just hope Matt's not "satisfied" and continues to work hard.

After scoring a 18-10 decision over Matthew Flores of Twin Falls, Idaho & recording a stoppage victory
over the Army's Javier Albonica, Ft. Carson, Colo., RSCO-3 (1:11) Ramos' Olympic hopes came to an
end.
Hector Ramos late rally fell a bit short against last years Lightweight National Champion, Danny Garcia,
Philadelphia, Pa. After falling behind 10-0 in the first round. Ramos went into the final round down 14-6 but
was unable to make up the difference losing a 19-18 decision.
This could have very well been Ramos' last amateur bout. After battling injury after injury throughout the year
Ramos will take some time off to recover and hopefully make his pro debut before the year is over.
There are good & bad things about being at the top years before the Olympics. Good, you get to travel to
world and compete against the best boxers around the globe. BAD, you're exposed to your opponents.

Boxers heading to Gulf Association......again!
June 14, 2007
Our team will once again head to another LBC in preparation for this years Ringside Tournament in
Kansas City, MO.
Last week we decided to attend a local boxing show here in San Antonio (Ft. Sam Houston); boxers,
Matt Suniga, Paul Suniga, Christian Santibanes, Cresencio Ramos, Richard Soto, and Carlos Alvarez
all weighed in hoping to compete in their hometown. None of our boxers were matched. A total of 8
bouts were made for the boxing show. Saying it was a poor turnout would be a understatement.
Hopefully this doesn't become the norm here in San Antonio.
It's obvious the wheels here in San Antonio have stopped spinning recently. It's up to the local officials
to figure out a way to start them up again before they fall off.
People are more interested in having authority than working towards keeping our young boxers busy
and out of trouble.
Crime rate in San Antonio (for children 11-16yrs of age) is up 30% (& rising) since the mid 90's.
Teenagers are the face of our sport. It's time to put our personal interest aside and start thinking about
who we're hurting.
The last two shows here in South TX. (Austin & San Antonio) were both closed to JO Boxers (8-16yrs).
In Austin the officials in charge of the show we unable to having JO boxers compete due to "topless
drunk ring card girls". The show last week was closed to JO boxers due to some "high ranked" military
officials not wanting to watch children "fight".
If we continue to allow these things we'll soon become the "Jerry Springer" of boxing.

Ramos & Dargan upset at US
Championships!
June 4, 2007 - Colorado Springs, CO.
After spending much of the year as the top Light Welterweights in the country Karl Dargan & Hector
Ramos were both upset at this years US Championships / Olympic Trials. Karl Dargan lost a 31-27
decision to Javier Molina of Commerce, Calif.
Ramos scores big win. Suniga
continue winning ways!
June 16, 2007 - Houston, TX
Our team traveled to the Gulf Association for the second time this month. After a disappointing showing
at last weeks show here in San Antonio (Only 8 bouts) we've decided to put in a few extra miles to keep
our boxers active.
The Gulf Association is a real throwback to the old school days of amateur boxing. Anyone who has
been involved in amateur boxing the past twenty years knows it's a good thing. It's obvious that this
associations best interest are the boxers.
There's a reason why teams from Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee and Dallas were there this week for
a non-advancing tournament. Officials are willing to sacrifice their weekend for the sake of the boxers.
The last two shows we've been to had over 45 bouts scheduled. Weigh-ins 11-1pm, physicals from
1-2pm and first bout ready to go at 2pm. Only one way to pull this off, TEAMWORK!
Matt Suniga, Cresenico Ramos & Christian Santibanes all had tough bouts. Eric Guajardo, Richard Soto
and Paul Suniga were unable to get matches.
Matt Suniga vs Jonathan Duarte, Screaming Eagles - Houston, TX. Suniga continued his winning
ways scoring his 3rd win this month. After a rough start of going 0-2 Suniga has found the key
ingredient to winning, WORKING HARD IN THE GYM. The results have been obvious for Matt. With his
continued hard work Matt's success should continue. This bout was non stop action. Duarte's non-top
punching style played into Matt's counter punching & tight defense.
Cresencio Ramos vs Marshall Sanchez, Houston, TX. Ramos scored one of the biggest wins of his
career against Silver Gloves National Champion and Houston resident, Marshall Sanchez. The first
round was a chess match with both boxers looking to counter-punch.
The 2nd & 3rd round were all Ramos. Ramos started applying pressure in the final two rounds and
scored the win.
Christian Santibanes vs Anibal Resendez, Dallas, TX. The scoring here was a little confusing. One
judge had Santibanes winning 10-6, while another had him losing 58-49. Santibanes lost a 2-1 decision.
It was a good win for Resendez who traveled from Dallas for this fight.
This weeks schedule is still in question. We're either going to Houston again or heading down to Taylor,
TX. (near Austin) for the Hutto Prison protest. To read more about this prison, click here.

Suniga impressive in Victoria!
Nov. 11, 2007
Cresencio Ramos, Christian Santibanez, "Devin Brown" & Matt Suniga all traveled to Vitoria, TX
this weekend for their boxing show. "Devin Brown" scored a rugged decision over a boxer from
Kingsville in the final bout (#37) of the night. Christian Santibanez once again lost a very close
decision to a boxer out of San Marcos, TX. Matt Suniga's sparring vs Cresencio and Christian
seems to be paying off. He looked very impressive in his victory over Noe Pena of EL Campo, TX.
I wasn't able to attend this show. The duties were handled by Arturo Ramos Sr., Paul Suniga Sr.
and Cresencio Ramos Sr.
As soon as I get names of opponents I will update. I'll also be posting a link to Christian's bout. I'm
still a bit confused with the decision.

"Duck Hunt" in McKinney, TX.
Dec. 10, 2007
Our boxers were all involved in a game of Duck Hunt this past week at this years State Silver gloves in
McKinney, TX. This old game can be really fun and entertaining when you're the one holding the gun.
Our boxers this past week, were not.
Cresencio Ramos scored the teams only victory to advance to the finals where he dropped a decision
to Houston's Marshall Sanchez.
Adrianna Vela, Paige Galvan, both also lost in the finals. Christian Santibanes & Matt Suniga both lost
on the opening night.
I did not attend this tournament and didn't really have much interest in watching the fights which were
all recorded.
